A fire early Tuesday ripped through a building at 93 Sherman Street in Belfast. When firefighters were alerted around 2:40 a.m., 911indicate a barn was involved. State police arrived on scene and reported the building was fully engulfed in flames. Crews responded from Belfast, Angelica, Oramel, Houghton and Rushford. There were no immediate reports on injuries. Equipment began to return to service some three hours later. The cause is under investigation.
UPDATE: Allegany County Emergency Manager Jeff Luckey reported that the building was a garage with several additions. It was destroyed, he said. The cause was accidental, attributed to an electrical issue, said Luckey. There were no injuries.
