Alfred State: Day of Giving raises over $212,000

Thanks to another amazing show of support from donors, Alfred State College was able to raise $212,162 this year during its fourth annual Day of Giving.
Funds donated for the yearly event benefit a number of causes at Alfred State, from scholarships, to new programming, to updated technology, to athletic programs, and much more.
Alfred State Director of Development Trish Haggerty, said, “This year’s Day of Giving was an overwhelming success! Thanks to the support and generosity of our alumni, faculty, staff, students, and friends of the college, we were able to not only reach but exceed our goal of raising $200,000. There was a lot of engagement on campus from our faculty, staff, and students once again this year, which is always our hope. We want to continue to use the Day of Giving not only to raise much-needed funds for the college, but also to educate and share the importance of philanthropy with our current students so that one day they will be supporters of the next generation of Pioneers, as well.”
Throughout the day, Alfred State held some fun events to coincide with the Day of Giving, including games, cookie decorating, and the inaugural faculty and staff spelling bee showdown, which raised more than $2,700. A number of treats were also made available on campus during the day, including Lain’s Cider Mill doughnuts, popcorn, snow cones, and cotton candy.
Additionally, several major gifts were unlocked once certain challenges were met. The list includes:
  • A kickoff gift of $10,000 from loyal donor and College Council member Charles Craig.
  • A $25,000 gift from an anonymous donor that was unlocked once the college reached the halfway point of its $200,000 goal.
  • A social media challenge gift of $25,000 donated by Development Fund Board Chair Dale Stell that was unlocked after Alumni Relations’ Facebook post about Day of Giving received 100 shares.
  • A $500 challenge gift that was unlocked by the men’s baseball team for collecting the most donations by 5 p.m.
  • A $500 challenge gift that was unlocked by the men’s wrestling team who shared their fundraising efforts online using the hashtag #ASCDay2Give.
Also worth noting is that the farthest-away donation came from a donor in Allschwil, Switzerland. The donation was secured by members of the newly established Fencing Club.
“On behalf of the students at Alfred State who will directly benefit from your support, I’d like to send a heartfelt thank you to each and every person who came together and made our fourth annual Day of Giving a success,” Haggerty said. “The tagline we created four years ago – ‘One Day. One Goal. One Alfred.’ – still perfectly describes what we witness on this day annually and it’s amazing.”
