Jetro Silva Quartet Joins Houghton College Artist Series

HOUGHTON, NY – Jazz meets Brazilian and Caribbean influences as the Houghton College Artist Series welcomes The Jetro Silva Quartet to the 2018-2019 lineup. The Monday, November 12 performance at 8:00 p.m. in Wesley Chapel is open to the public, and tickets are required.
Known for its prolific musical expression and improvisation, The Jetro Silva Quartet (JSQ) has performed in settings ranging from jazz festivals and houses of worship to the Kriole Jazz Festival in Cape Verde (Africa), the Jazz Vespers Series in Boston, and performances at the Berklee College of Music. The ensemble’s arrangements and interpretations of hymns and traditional standards have earned praise and admiration for audiences and jazz masters, including Bill Pierce, Terri Lyne Carrington, and Jack DeJonette.
Dr. Jetro Silva, professor of music industry and director of technical arts at Houghton, brings keyboard mastery to the group. He is joined by his wife and vocalist Nimma Xiomara Barbosa Sousa Silva; Ron Savage, percussionist and dean of the professional performance division at Berklee College of Music; and Ron Mahdi, bassist and professor at Berklee College of Music.
