Life's Healing Choices, a free eight-week study and support
for individuals, including teenagers, who are struggling and those who would
like to help them effectively, is being added to two other holiday support
opportunities hosted by a Scio church.
The lessons will be held from 8:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
Sundays, beginning December 2, as part of Knights Creek Church's Sunday School
curriculum. Individuals from other
churches are invited to participate and still have time to attend 11 a.m.
services at their own churches. The
church is located at 2987 Knights Creek Road (County Road 9), four miles south
of Scio.
Pastor Carl Kemp said Knights Creek is finding through its
other ministries that there potentially are thousands of individuals in Allegany
County who are struggling with all types of life issues, many becoming
particularly acute during the holidays.
The new study is designed to help people find freedom from
hurts, hangups and habits that may even have been ongoing for years.
The eight-part DVD/gender-specific discussion series is
taught by Rick Warren, pastor of Saddleback Church in California and author of
the long-time, best-selling book, Purpose Driven Life.
It centers on life choices of admitting one's need for
healing, getting help, being able to let go of past situations, making needed
changes that allow healing to occur, repair of negative relationships, and
more.
Knights Creek also is offering Surviving the Holidays and
Help Grieving Children seminars for a second year at the church, and at the new
Hope Center in Wellsville, along with other partnering locations that may wish
to participate.
It also offers year-around Saturday night Celebrate Victory
support, based on the international Celebrate Recovery ministry, also founded
at Saddleback Church. Knights Creek
facilitators also participate in facilitating Celebrate Recovery Inside each
week for inmates at Allegany County Jail, providing a means for prisoners on the
inside and supportive family members and friends on the outside to learn the
same type of information.
GriefShare Surviving the Holidays will be held from 6:30
p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, November 25, at the church, followed immediately by Help
Grieving Children for adults.
The same seminars will be held Wednesday, December 5,
starting at 2 p.m. at the Hope Center, 4194 Bolivar Road (State Route 417) -
Suite 5, Wellsville, with DivorceCare Surviving the Holidays being offered from
6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the same location, also followed by Help Grieving
Children.
Celebrate Recovery | Celebrate Victory is offered from 7
p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays at the church, with refreshments at 6:45 p.m.
All sessions are available to those who are struggling and
those who would like to come alongside them in an effective, caring manner.
There is a $5 cost for the Surviving the Holidays guidebooks
for those who have not participated previously or retained the materials, with
no cost for Help Grieving Children, Life's Healing Choices or Celebrate
Recovery | Celebrate Victory sessions.
Pastor Kemp said all these supports reflect an ongoing
desire by Knights Creek to serve as “the little country church with the heart
of Christ.”
The church also offers a free weekly Community Dinner after
its 11 a.m. Sunday worship services, followed by free music lessons for
children and adults. It holds a 6 p.m.
Sunday night service, a 6 p.m. Wednesday night Bible study, and a 6:30 a.m. to
7:30 a.m. weekday community prayer gathering.
A free alternating coffee house and movie night is held the First Friday
of the month for individuals and families.
