Allegany County accepts lead-acid batteries
Do you have automotive (lead-acid) batteries lying around
that you don’t know what to do with? Allegany County is proud to announce that
we accept these at all Allegany County Transfer Stations during normal business
hours, at no charge. Lead-acid batteries can also be found in motorcycles,
ATV’s, farm equipment, powered ride-on toys and many other applications. Why
recycle these? The lead in these batteries can be very detrimental to personal
and environmental health. New York State regulation went into effect on January
1, 1991 that prohibits the disposal of these types of batteries by any method
other than recycling. Please contact Tim Palmiter, Allegany County Recycling
Coordinator, with any questions regarding lead-acid battery, or any other,
recycling at 585-268-7282 or palmitt@alleganyco.com.
