New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Basil Seggos today announced a special holiday offer that will allow people who love the environment and outdoors to obtain a one-year subscription to DEC's award-winning Conservationist Magazine-six issues-for just $6, half the normal subscription price. As a bonus, subscribers will receive an additional issue-for a total of seven issues for just $6. This deal is only being offered for a limited time now through November 26.
Last year, more than 300 people signed up for the discounted subscriptions and received seven issues of the Conservationist. These readers enjoyed articles that included DEC scientists visiting dens to track black bears, amazing photo essays ranging from drake mallards to white-tailed deer to snowy owls, and more. Subscribers also had access to printed and digital versions of the magazine, where they could learn about animal and bird species, great sites for hiking, paddling and exploring, and exciting ways to interact with outdoor wonders across the state, for both novices and experts.
The magazine includes regular features like "On Patrol," which highlights some interesting activities of DEC Forest Rangers and Environmental Conservation Police Officers (ECOs), including human rescues. The "Briefly" section includes interesting environmental news and events. "Back Trails" essays provide a personal perspective on people's connection to the outdoors, and the ever-popular "Letters" section, lets readers share pictures and tales of their own encounters with nature.
Conservationist is a timeless and inexpensive way to connect to the natural Environment. Young children enjoy the pictures (as will readers who have not been children for quite some time), and the articles are written to be informative, educational, and fun for people of all ages. As part of the magazine subscription, subscribers also receive Conservationist for Kids - a pullout specifically designed for young readers - three times a year at no additional cost.
