"Supporting our veterans and their families has always been a top priority for this administration, and this critical legislation will help ensure military families who have suffered the greatest loss get the support and benefits they so rightly deserve," Governor Cuomo said. The Gold Star annuity is a special income-eligible annuity to recognize the emotional loss and financial implications of parents whose child has died serving this country, as there are many instances in which the deceased contributed to the financial well-being of his or her parents. Since its implementation in 2008, the Gold Star Parent Annuity has not been increased, despite inflation and other economic factors causing prices to rise. This annual increase will ensure the support we give to Gold Star Parents will not fall behind.

This legislation will ensure that parents who have lost a child to war have the financial support they need to get by. I applaud the Governor for signing this critical legislation to recognize the ultimate sacrifice of our soldiers and their families on Veterans Day."
