NUNDA TOWN/DANSVILLE VILLAGE: Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of a Dansville, NY man on several felony charges after the investigation of a stolen handgun.
On October 22, 2018 members of the Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Division, and Forensic Identification Unit, responded to a residence in the Village of Nunda to investigate the report of a stolen handgun. Through the initial investigation, Sheriff’s Investigators identified a possible suspect as 31-year-old Joseph I. Blizzard from the village of Dansville. The investigation continued with the assistance of the Dansville Police Department, and ultimately led to the arrest of Joseph Blizzard and the recovery of the stolen gun.
It is alleged that on October 21st, while Blizzard was at the residence in the Village of Nunda, he stole the handgun. It is further alleged that Blizzard then took the stolen handgun to a residence in Dansville where he sold it to another person.
On October 31, 2018 Sheriff’s Investigator Josh Monster arrested and charged Joseph Blizzard with felony Grand Larceny in the 4th Degree, felony Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, and felony Criminal Sale of a Firearm in the 3rd Degree.
Blizzard was turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention. The District Attorney’s Office was contacted in regards to bail due to the felony level charges and they requested the Judge to hold Blizzard on $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond.
Blizzard was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part (LC-CAP) at the Livingston County Jail before Village of Dansville Justice Scott Kenney. The Judge remanded Blizzard to the custody of the Sheriff on the recommended bail of $20,000 cash or $40,000 bond.
The Sheriff’s Office, along with the Dansville Police Department, are continuing the investigation and further arrests are expected.
