Angelica Legion to mark Veterans Day in Park Circle ceremonies

The original Allegany County Court House (now Angelica Town Hall) was used during World War I as a State Armory, home to Co. A, 4th Infantry, New York Guard. This year banners have been hung on the building to recreate the look of this photo. Angelica veterans, family & friends will assemble for a group picture in front of the old armory on November 11.
ANGELICA - Hill-Warner American Legion Post 414 will hold a Veterans Day memorial service on Sunday, November 11 at 11 a.m. at the veterans’ monument in the park. The service will begin immediately following ringing of bells in Park Circle churches that is to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 1918 armistice ending the First World War.
The ceremony in the park is dedicated to all veterans, and will honor in particular these from our community who have left us in the past year:
Eugene E. Rogers, 89, October 25, 2017 / Raymond E. Brandes, 86, October 30 / James V. Wilkins, 71, February 18, 2018 / Clayton E. Bentley, 75, March 29 / William A. Edwards, 69, April 1 / Alfred Baham, 91, April 24 / Daniel L. Green Sr., 90, May 1 / Howard I. Harding, 85, September 4 / Lloyd H. “Salty” Austin, 99, September 21.
After the service the assemblage will proceed across the park to the front of the Town Hall (former County Court House) for a group photograph recognizing that building’s use as a State Armory during World War I. All veterans in the community, family members, and friends are encouraged to take part.
Following this there will be a ceremony behind the Legion building on West Main Street to dispose of worn and discarded American flags. You may bring your flags to the Legion on that day, or deposit them in the specially marked receptacle outside prior to November 11.
The Legion Auxiliary will serve refreshments to veterans and their families following the services.
