Allegany County Legislature advances sales tax extention

The Allegany County legislature voted Monday afternoon to advance to the state legislature a request to extend the county's 1.5% sales tax for another three years.
Senator Borrello and Assemblyman Giglio have drafted bills authorizing the extension through November 30, 2023. They just needed Allegany County to approve a resolution requesting passage of the Senate and Assembly bills. Based on sales tax revenue receipts of $21 million for 2019, the additional one and one-half percent (1.5%) sales tax resulted in $7.12 million revenue. County legislators Gary Barnes and Karl Graves, both of Wellsville, voted against the measure.
Monday's county board meeting was historic. Because of the COVID-19 outbreak, the county complex is closed to the public. The meeting, for the first time ever, was conducted via a teleconference and was also live-streamed on Facebook.
