Mammography services continue in Allegany County

When Jones Memorial Hospital announced last year that it was moving its mammography services from Main Street in Wellsville to a new location in Hornell, some patients were concerned. One of the patients was Barb Hetzel of Wellsville. Since October 2019, Hetzel has been busy working to see if other services were available in Allegany County. Working with the League of Women Voters, she discovered that a mobile service exists that serves Allegany County. According to Hetzel, Windsong provides serves at several locations in the county. In fact, the mobile unit covers all of western New York. Here is what Windsong can offer:
  1. They will help arrange transportation to one of their mobile locations.
  2. No insurance? No problem. They partner with Cancer Services program so you can receive an exam at no cost.
  3. You will need a script from your doctor for the exam and if you don't have a doctor, they will work that out as well.
Windsong's Mobile Mammography uses 3D mammography to provide breast cancer screening to women. When Hetzel posted the information on a closed Facebook group, she said she immediately received 85 responses. Hetzel said in an interview this week that "this is a good thing for out area." She added, "we don't have to be second-class citizens."
This is absolutely not a slight against Jones Memorial. It IS, however, an option for those who don't want to or can't travel to Hornell. You can also reach out to Jamie Stasiak, RT (R) (CM) at 716-631-2500 ext. 2370 or 716-929-9494.  Windsong has already scheduled visits to Allegany County through November.
