Attorney General-Elect Letitia James Announces Barbara Underwood to Serve as Solicitor General

PRESS RELEASE

NEW YORK -- Following a historic win as the first woman of color elected to New York statewide office, Attorney General-elect Letitia James today announced that Barbara Underwood has agreed to continue as Solicitor General in her administration. Barbara Underwood became New York Attorney General in May 2018, and will serve in that post until December 31st. She previously served as Solicitor General from January 2007 until May 2018 and will resume that position on January 1st when Letitia James is sworn in as Attorney General.

“Since May of this year, Barbara Underwood has carried the mantle, serving New Yorkers as the state’s top law enforcement officer. She is an exceptionally qualified attorney who has the experience and skills we need to continue taking on the greatest challenges facing our state. I am honored and proud to make this appointment and to have her serve alongside me,” said Attorney General-elect Letitia James.
