Ruth G. Davis Beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Friend of the Cuba community
CUBA - Ruth G. Davis, 96, of 49 Spring Street passed away Friday, October 12, 2018 at Cuba Memorial Hospitals Palliative Care Unit after a lengthy illness.
Born on November 26, 1921, in Cuba, she was a daughter of the late Monroe and Bertha Perkins Phillips.  On March 30, 1940, at St. Patrick’s Parish in Fillmore, she married Walter B. “Curly” Davis who preceded her in death on Dec. 14, 2000. She was a graduate of Fillmore High School Class of 1938. 
Residing in the area all of her life, she was employed at local restaurants including the Texas Hot, The Stonelrier in Rushford, The Cuba Lake Pavillion, Moonwinks and Mom and Pops Soda Bar all of Cuba.  After five years with Acme Electric she joined the Cuba High School Cafeteria staff, retiring after 26 years as the baker.
She was a member of Our Lady of Angels Church where she served on the Bishops Committee and Allegany County Catholic Women.  Active in the Community she was also a member of the Cuba Evening Homemakers, and Cuba Senior Citizens.  She and her husband were honored by the Cuba Chamber of Commerce for their community service and in August of 2018 she was honored at the Southwest Firemen’s Convention for being a 50 year Charter member of the Southwest Firemen’s Auxiliary.
Ruth enjoyed making plates of candy including her own fudge recipe, and with her husband making strawberry jam and maple syrup for gifts to many relatives, friends, and merchants.  She also enjoyed camping, crafts, square dancing, the friendship and traveling with her senior friends, and a trip to Alaska highlighted her 50th wedding anniversary. 
Surviving are two sons Basil “Mick” (Marjorie) Davis of Angelica and Richard “Dick” Davis of West Winfield, NY; a daughter-in-law, Renan Davis of Keno, OR; 6 grandchildren, James, Carrie, Corey, Jared, Jon, and Mary Helen; 10 great grandchildren     Matthew, Tylor, John, Kaden, Christopher, Christina, Cheyenne, Chase,  Aren, and Angelo; Many Nieces and Nephews; two dear friends, Martha Miller and John Marcoux, both of Cuba; a brother-in-law, Laverne (Jean) Davis of Lakeland, FL. Besides her husband she was predeceased by a daughter Mary Helen Davis in 1959, a son Francis Davis in 2005, her sisters Ethel McCarthy, Theresa Greene Howard, Florence Harrison, her twin sisters Marge Phillips and Anita Connors, two sister in laws Virginia and Eleanor, and a brother in law Ellsworth “Sam” Davis.
Friends will be received at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba on Sunday, October 14, 2018 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady on Angels Church, 50 South Street, Cuba, on Monday, October 15, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.  The Rev. Dennis J.J. Mancuso will be the celebrant.
Burial will be in Our Lady Angels Cemetery, Cuba.  In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Palmer Opera House, 12 West Main St., Cuba, NY 14727. Online condolences may be sent at www.rinkerfuneralhome.com.
