Police investigating armed robbery in Alfred - The Spectator

ALFRED — Alfred Police are on the lookout for an armed robbery suspect in the village, after a man was accosted with a gun over the weekend.
According to a “Timely Notice” alert issued early Saturday morning by Alfred State College, University Police were notified that between 12:40 and 1:15 a.m. an alleged armed robbery occurred on Elm Street between Alfred State and Church Street.
Alfred Police Chief Paul Griffith said on Monday that the perpetrator only got away with a cell phone after approaching the victim with a gun and saying, “I want everything in your pockets” — while working the silver slide of what appeared to be a black handgun.
The victim reportedly handed over a cell phone, and as the victim reached for a wallet, the suspect was already running away, in the direction of the Alfred State College campus.
Alfred Police have been working with University Police to build leads. However, no witnesses or additional leads have materialized since the robbery, Griffith said.
On the night of the incident, video from the Alfred State College campus were reviewed, but the camera is motion activated, and did not pick up the motion of a suspect, authorities said.
Additionally, University Police checked log books at each of the campus dorms, but did not find anyone fitting the description given by the victim.
“We believe it may be a friend of a student,” Griffith surmised.
Police were unable to track the stolen cell phone because the victim could not recall the password to activate the tracking app.
