Fire damages Town of Allen home - home owner receives credit

A fire early Tuesday caused some damage to a Town of Allen home. Firefighters were alerted at 2:39 a.m. for the structure fire at 8977 Middle Road. Angelica Fire posted this release on Facebook:
At 2:39a.m. this morning the Angelica and Short Tract Fire Department's were dispatched to a residence on the Middle Rd in the Town of Allen for a reported structure fire. While responding County Dispatch reported the home owner thought they may have the fire out but had left the residence due to the smoke. Upon arrival of the first fire units it was confirmed the fire had been extinguished.
What a great response from both Short Tract and Angelica for so early in the morning especially with very poor road conditions.
I just wanted to reinforce how important smoke detectors are and check them on a regular basis. The other is have at least one 5lb but preferably 10lb ABC fire extinguisher readily accessible and know how to use it. If this family would not have had a working fire extinguisher I fear the outcome would have been devastating.
