BATH – The nonprofit Steuben County Land Bank Corporation (SCLBC) has been awarded $550,000 in a second round of state funding aimed at redeveloping vacant, abandoned and tax-delinquent properties in Steuben. SCLBC Executive Director and county Deputy Manager Mitch Alger said Enterprise Community Partners, Inc. notified the land bank it would receive its second round of funding. "It’s a little more than we received two years ago" Alger told the SCLBC board Monday. "And it’s an indication we’re doing things right." Since the corporation received $500,000 in November 2016, the board has overseen the reclamation of two homes in the City of Corning. Two other homes, in the Village of Bath and City of Hornell, have been demolished. Currently, the board is considering several other properties for restoration or demolition under the initial 2016 grant. The N.Y. Attorney General’s office reports it has provided more than $82 million to land banks since 2013.
"The Land Bank Community Revitalization Initiative is a critical tool for revitalizing distressed communities, and Enterprise is proud to partner with the Attorney General on this important program," said Judi Kende, vice president and New York market leader, Enterprise Community Partners. "(This) builds on several years of work to create and preserve quality affordable housing statewide, and we look forward to continuing to support this effort in the years to come."
