I spent 29 years in the New York State Police. I lived and
worked in western New York for 17 of those years. As I rose through the ranks
of the state police to become the interim Superintendent of the State Police
with the rank of Brigadier General; I never met a police officer with greater
integrity, a higher work ethic, or superior level of professionalism than
Walter Mackney. I wholeheartedly endorse him for Sheriff of Allegany County.
I have known Walter Mackney for more than 36 years. We first
worked together when I was a trooper out of SP Wellsville, and he was a Cuba
Police department officer. We quickly became law enforcement colleagues. He
then joined the New York State Police, which has one of the most rigorous
entry-level screening processes of any law enforcement agencies in the nation.
He then rose through the ranks to become a Senior Investigator; a grade few
Troopers make but many covet.
As the Commander of the Southern Tier Drug Task Force,
Walter led major narcotics investigations to rid Allegany of notorious drug
traffickers and the poison they spread. He solved many major cases including
homicides and other violent offenses through his dogged determination and
superb investigative abilities.
I have traveled across this country and internationally; in
my travels, I have met many outstanding police professionals. Walter Mackney by
far is among the finest, so my endorsement comes easily. He has dedicated his
life to serving the people of Allegany County. He will be an outstanding
sheriff.
I trust Walter with my life. I know you will not find a
better sheriff.
