U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $83,759 in federal funding for the Cornell Cooperative Extension Association in Allegany County (CCE-Allegany). The funding was allocated through the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC).
CCE-Allegany will use the funding for their Seek It and Keep It Job and Life Skills Boot Camp, a training program for young adults between the ages of 16-24 that is designed to teach them the skills necessary to obtain and keep a job. CCE-Allegany will partner with Alfred State College, the Allegany Manufacturing Council, the Allegany Office of Employment and Training, and the local school system to provide students with training to ensure that they can succeed in the workplace and are equipped with the skills that are sought after by regional employers.
“This federal investment is good news for the students and young adults of Allegany County,” said Senator Schumer. “The Seek It and Keep It Job and Life Skills Boot Camp is exactly the type of program that we should be investing in, as it helps young adults develop the tools they need to thrive in the workplace. I’m proud of the role I played in securing this federal investment, and will always fight to support programs that help students get jobs after school.”
“I’m very excited to announce this funding for CCE-Allegany to use for their Seek It and Keep It Job and Life Skills Boot Camp, which will give new opportunities to young adults in Allegany County who are ready to enter the workforce,” said Senator Gillibrand. “This program will prepare new job-seekers with the skills necessary to enter the next stage of their lives and set them up for future success. I will always work in the Senate to make sure that New Yorkers can get the training and skills necessary to access the jobs they want.”
“CCE Allegany is very excited to join forces with local employers, school guidance counselors and our County Employment and Training office to offer this much needed program,” said Laura Hunsberger, Executive Director of CCE-Allegany. “We aim to improve the employability of our young adults to better ready them for today’s workforce.”
