First Allegany Churches Prayer Meetings of the Year

Allegany County churches involved in a Journey to Transformation communities initiative will begin prayer gatherings for 2018 this week in Belmont.
Mission Genesee Valley participating churches will hold a community prayer gathering from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday. January 5, at the Fountain Arts Center at The Belmont, 48 Schuyler Street.  A regional praise and worship gathering, with live music, also has been scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, January 14, at Genesis Bible Church, 4193 State Route 19 South.
Three types of intergenerational and multicultural prayer gatherings are held monthly for county residents seeking community transformation for modern day issues affecting families.
-- Friday night sessions, held in different parts of the county, feature prayer for host, community and county churches and Christian service organizations, along with transformation within Allegany County and beyond.
-- Twice-a-month Sunday gatherings, also at various locations, emphasize issues of addiction, abuse, racism, suicide, poverty, family dysfunction and more that pastors say are extremely serious issues throughout this area, the United States and the world.
-- Weekday and weekly prayer meetings also are held from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. each weekday morning at Knights Creek Evangelical Methodist Church, 2987 County Road 9, Scio; 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesdays at the Belfast Free Methodist Church; and from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturdays at the Powerhouse Youth Center, 23 West Main Street, Fillmore.
Focus on prayer results from a multi-denominational gathering of church leaders and interested individuals a year ago for a three-evening and one full-day training by the international Sentinel Group that helps equip church leaders for transformational renewal and revival of their communities.
This was followed last May by some 120 individuals participating in a follow-up Solemn Assembly involving worship, declaration of community needs, corporate repentance, and prayer.
Other prayer activities since that time, in addition to individual and community needs, have focused on schools, substance abuse, veterans, families and more.
