WiFi Hotspots Coming to Alfred Box of Books

ALFRED — The Alfred Box of Books Library has been selected as one of 20 U.S. libraries to participate in Community Connect: Digital Access at Home, an initiative of the American Library Association (ALA) and Capital One that offers cash grants to help rural libraries offer internet access and financial education for their patrons.

“We are so excited to be selected from a pool of more than 170 applicants to bring Community Connect to Alfred,” said Library Director Melanie Miller. “Providing access to Wi-Fi is so important now more than ever, especially in rural communities.”

Community Connect will begin at the Box of Books Library in November. Five Verizon WiFi hotspots will be available for check-out. Hotspots will be checked out for two (2) weeks with one (1) renewal for a maximum check out period of four (4) weeks.

The Alfred Box of Books Library will also receive a $2,000 cash grant to support financial literacy programs. For more information and a calendar of upcoming library programs, visit www.alfredboxofbookslibrary.org.
