Former Town of Perry Ambulance Service Business Manager Darcy J. Conaway has been charged with grand larceny in the third degree for allegedly syphoning more than $3,000 of ambulance service funds, according to New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.
The arrest was the product of a joint investigation by DiNapoli, the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office and Wyoming County District Attorney Donald G. O’Geen. The investigation found that between December 2014 and August 2017, Conaway used ambulance funds to pay her personal utility bills, Direct TV Service and her husband’s membership to the New York State Snowmobile Association.
"Conaway allegedly helped herself to money meant to help her community,” DiNapoli said. “I thank Wyoming County Sheriff Gregory J. Rudolph and District Attorney O’Geen for their continued partnership in fighting corruption.”
“The arrest was the result of a lengthy investigation by the State Comptroller’s office, officials from the town of Perry, former board members and employees of Perry Emergency Ambulance,” said Wyoming County Sheriff Gregory J. Rudolph.
Conaway, 50, of Silver Springs, was arrested and arraigned at village of Perry Court by Judge Charles Miller. Conaway was released on $1,000 bail and is due back in court on Nov. 5.
