Two "local(super) heroes" lent a hand in helping the Wellsville community
make opening weekend for Avengers: Endgame exciting for movie-goers at the
Grand Theatre on Main Street in Wellsville. Shane Allen and Ryan Nixon, both of
Wellsville, say they are big fans of the Disney Marvel Universe. Allen and Nixon are both professional cosplay
enthusiasts and have been bringing smiles to kids and fans for almost a decade. The two are frequently invited to Comic Con
events all over the North East part of the country. On Friday night, Allen and Nixon gave fans at
the Grand Theatre a chance to see and take free pictures with several movie
props and both dressed in S.H.I.E.L.D. themed costumes. Avengers: Endgame has
already broken several box office records over the weekend. Industry estimates
as of last night for Friday stand at $158.3M (including $60M record previews),
which is $39.2M more than Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ opening and single day
record of $119.1M. And, as for the weekend, this morning the range is between
$349M-$356M off the widest theatrical release ever of 4,662. Saturday is
expected to ease between -30% and -35%, for a take between $102M-$110M.
To keep up with demand, Wellsville Grand Theatre is running
extra showings of Avengers: Endgame over the weekend to a packed theatre in
most showings. In addition, the theatre
offering several free raffles giveaways, and trivia. Cutting the evening short,
Wellsville Police officers arrived on scene. Allen said they (police) were acting on a civilian
complaint about a prop vehicle to promote the movie. Police charged Allen with
parking in a restricted zone. Allen and Nixon say they’ll be back tonight to
wow fans and have more pictures taken with kids. Allen pointed out that they did the same routine last month, parking in the same spot, and nobody complained and police were not involved. In a similar event, the city of Hornell this week welcomed the pair for the fun-themed event.
