On March 19, 2018 Deputy Shawn Whitford was assigned to the
Sheriff’s Operation Safe Interstate initiative when he stopped a vehicle for a
violation of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law.
Through the roadside investigation the Deputy Sheriff
discovered that the three occupants of the vehicle were allegedly in possession
of crack cocaine as well as numerous items of drug paraphernalia.

The driver 21-year-old Ryan A. Ross, and two passengers, 22-year-old
Sarah L. Barnes, and 24- year-old James R. Price, were all taken into custody
for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree.
Deputy Jerry Pilkenton, along with Sergeant Ryan Swanson and
his K-9 partner Gibbs, arrived on scene to assist and to conduct a search of
the vehicle. After K-9 Gibbs alerted to areas of the vehicle, the Deputies
discovered that Sarah Barnes had allegedly attempted to conceal additional
crack and it was recovered by the Deputies.

The Deputies also discovered that James Price was in
possession of a hypodermic needle Instrument so he faced an additional charge
of Criminal Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument.
Ryan Ross also tried to destroy evidence of more crack
cocaine by eating a bag of it, he was charged with the felony of Tampering with
Physical Evidence.
Price, Ross, and Barnes were turned over to Central Booking
Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment
detention.
When inside the Livingston County Jail, Sarah Barnes was
found to be in possession of more crack cocaine. She was then charged with
felony Promoting Prison Contraband in the 1st Degree and an additional charge
of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree.
Price, Ross, and Barnes were later arraigned in the Town of
Avon Court before Judge Torregiano. The Judge remanded Barnes to the custody of
the Sheriff on $2,500 or $5,000 bond and Ross was remanded on $5,000 cash or
$10,000 bond. Price was remanded on $300 cash or $600 bond.
Barnes was also arraigned in the Village of Geneseo Court
before Judge Houston on the contraband related charges occurring at the
Livingston County Jail and was remanded to the custody of the Sheriff on an
additional $2,000 cash or $4,000 bond.
