Wyoming County: Three-year old child injured in accidental shooting

By Scott Desmit, The Daily News online
BENNINGTON - A 3-year-old child was seriously injured in what law enforcement officials are saying was an accidental shooting at a house on Tooley Road early Saturday morning.
Wyoming County Sheriff Gregory Rudolph said a loaded .45-caliber handgun was in the living room of the house when the parents left the room momentarily. The boy apparently picked up the gun and it discharged, hitting him in the upper chest and shoulder area, Rudolph said.
Rudolph did not want to specify where the gun was in the living room. The gun was legally registered, he said.
District Attorney Donald O’Geen was made aware of the details of the shooting. He said the shooting is being investigated as accidental and that because of the circumstances and what the parents are going through, any discussion of charges will be done later this week.
