Cuba woman faces felony, other counts in Portville incident

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office report the arrest of Monica A. Barber, 39, of Cuba, NY. Barber was arrested on 4/14/2025 at around 9:58am, following an investigation, it was found that Barber allegedly stole jewelry and a checkbook from the victim’s residence. Then with the stolen checkbook, Barber forged multiple checks and used them to withdraw an amount totaling over $3,000 from multiple banks. Barber was charged with Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree, Forgery in the Third Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Third Degree. Monica was released on her own recognizance and is scheduled to appear back in Portville Town Court at a later date.
