Obituary: Richard D. Golish, 81, Wellsville

Richard D. Golish, 81, passed away Wednesday (March 1, 2017) at Highland Park Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, surrounded by family.          
Mr. Golish was born on May 3, 1935 in Whitesville to John Joseph and Rose Eileen (Redner) Golish. He served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957. On Feb. 4, 1979, in Willing, he married Arlene Marie White, who survives.          
Richard worked as a diesel mechanic for C & H Trucking in Texas and Pacific States Transport in Utah.
In addition to his wife of 38, years, Dick is survived by five sons, Jerry Golish of Alabama, Vince (Kathy Gee) Golish of Ballston Spa, Mike (Theresa) Golish, William (Jody) Golish and John (Jenny) Golish, all of Wellsville; three daughters, Jackie (Larry) Drake of Galeton, Pa., Kelly (Scott) Vossler and Sheila Golish, both of Wellsville; two brothers, John W. Golish of Jacksonville, Fla. and Clair (Pat) Golish of Jamestown; and two sisters, Joyce Waters of Whitesville and Darla Edwards of Wellsville.
Additionally, he is survived by two sisters-in-law, Judy Golish and Bonnie Golish, both of Andover; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
​He was predeceased by three sons, Rick Golish, Wayne Golish and Jimmy Golish; one daughter, Kathy Howe; three brothers, Darrel Golish, Dave Golish, and Steve Golish; and one sister, Mary Elaine Fanton.          
Dick was an avid outdoorsman. His experience as a diesel mechanic was a natural bridge to another favorite pastime, working on cars. He was also known to play a mean hand of euchre and poker. In his younger days, he enjoyed dancing. Dick was a member of the Wellsville American Legion.          
There will be a time of visitation tonight (Thursday) from 6-8 p.m. and Friday from 10-11 a.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home, 3256 Riverside Drive in Wellsville. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home immediately following the visitation with Rev. Jeremy Gorham of CrossTown Alliance Church, officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Bath National Cemetery.
          
The family has requested memorial contributions in Dick’s name to be made to Allegany County Cancer Services, Attn: Lori Ballengee, 100 South Highland Ave., Wellsville, NY 14895.
