Obituary: Robin J. Murphy, 71, Salamanca

Robin J. MURPHY, 71, of Salamanca, NY, died Monday, May 6, 2024 in Salamanca Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.  Born January 10, 1953, in Buffalo, he was the son of Francis J. “Frank” and Margarite M. Brockenshire Murphy.

Rob was born on a snowy January day in Buffalo, NY, January 10, 1953.  His first home was at 9 Hawley Street where he lived with his older brother, Kevin, and his Mom and Dad, Margarite and Frank.  After a couple of moves, and summers on beautiful Lake Erie just west of Port Colborne, Ontario, the family moved to a small college town near the Pennsylvania border called Alfred in 1963.  He started at Alfred-Almond Central School and finished high school in Friendship when his parents built a home there.  Rob attended  B.O.C.E.S. in Wellsville for a time where he studied food service.  He worked for a number of area businesses, including the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad, until he was stricken by a life-long illness while still a young man.  He got along for 20 years while on disability and with his wife, the late Rebecca Scott, but later became hospitalized and was a resident of Salamanca Rehabilitation Center for the past few years, where he was cared for and loved by the many staff members.  Always quick with a compliment or a joke, the staff adored him.  When younger, Rob loved family gatherings, playing horseshoes with his Dad, and caring for his many dogs from the time he was 12 years old, the last one being little Bootsie.  Rob was preceded in death by both his maternal and paternal grandparents, his Mom and Dad, and his youngest brother, Dean, in 2016.  He is survived by his two brothers, Kevin (Diane) and John; his Aunt June Tice in Florida; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins across the country.

A gathering to celebrate Rob’s life will be announced.  Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Cuba.  Cremation was at OLNEY-FOUST Private Crematory.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are under the direction of Olney-Foust Funeral Homes & Cremation, Crowell Chapel, 296 North Main Street, Wellsville, NY.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.wellsvillefuneralhome.com.
