Livingston County Sheriff Tom Dougherty announces the first ever Adult Citizen’s Academy.
This opportunity is available to individuals who are at least 19 years of age that either reside in or
work within Livingston County. The Sheriff’s Office will be hosting two sessions this summer,
with the first session beginning on June 4th, 2024. This is a 10-week program where individuals
will have the opportunity to come in once a week and participate in classroom instruction on
various topics related to Law Enforcement, view demonstrations and learn more about each
specialty unit at the Sheriff’s Office, as well as tour various facilities associated with the Sheriff’s
Office.
The objective of our Adult Citizen Academy is to give members of our community the
opportunity to learn more about the training that is received by today’s Police Officer’s and to
give them a better understanding of the ever changing world of modern day Law Enforcement.
Individuals will also be able to have one on one interaction with several specialty unit members
of the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office and learn more about their specialty and the continuous
training that it requires. Although individuals who complete the Adult Citizen’s Academy will
not be a certified Police Officer upon completion, our goal is to provide them with a greater
knowledge and insight into how the Sheriff’s Office operates and the process that each member
of our agency must complete in order to make the Sheriff’s Office a successful, accredited police
agency.
