Media Release: Welfare Fraud 5th Degree Petit Larceny Allegany County Sheriff Scott Cicirello reports that on January 23rd, 2024 Deputies of the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office arrested Michael A. Spear age 37 of Wellsville, New York. It is alleged that Mr. Spear did commit a fraudulent welfare act when he used a NYS benefit card that did not belong to him to obtain goods at numerous locations totaling $271.28. . Mr. Spear was released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Village of Belmont Court at a later date. The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Allegany County Department of Social Services Fraud Unit, and Investigators from the District Attorney’s Office.
