Write-in, absentee ballots to play key role in Allegany County elections

Write-in ballots, along with absentee ballots, will play a key role in finalizing voting results in several Allegany County jurisdictions. According to the Board of Elections in Belmont, they are holding on to nearly 2,800 absentee ballots. Officials said this morning those ballots won't be counted until November 10th.

In the Village of Angelica, Mickey Mouse could become the next Village Justice, in theory. There were no listed candidates AND no write-in votes. Officials said they have received 85 out of 100 absentee ballots requested.

The tally is too close to call in two Town of Wirt propositions. The first calls for extending the term from two to four years for the Highway Superintendent. The unofficial results has 214 in favor and 206 opposed. The second proposition calls for extending the term of office from two to four years for the town Clerk. Tuesday night, the vote was 211 in support and 209 opposed. Both will be decided by absentee ballots which again, won't be counted until next Tuesday.

In the Village of Wellsville, there was no formal candidate for a Trustee seat. The GOP launched a last-minute write-in campaign for Gary Pearson. A number of write-in votes were received, but they won't be counted until next week.
