Mitrano statement on Reed press conference: “It’s a lie.”

Mitrano statement on Reed press conference: “It’s a lie.”

Tom Reed held a press conference Monday addressing social media posts made by (1) an account rep of an outside agency used by the Mitrano campaign, and (2) a campaign staffer who resigned under threat of termination before the 2018 election.

The “employee” whom Reed called a “senior campaign strategist” and a “senior staff member” has never worked for the Mitrano campaign and has never served as a “senior advisor” as Reed claimed. She handles bulk email for Mandate Media, one of many contractors used by the Mitrano campaign. Today, after learning of this employee’s personal social media posts, the Mitrano campaign demanded that she be taken off the campaign’s account, and Mandate Media complied.

In 2018, when Tracy learned of the young staffer’s inappropriate personal social media post, she immediately offered her a choice: resign or be fired. The staffer chose to resign.

Tom Reed and his campaign are grasping at straws. Rather than run on his record as an incumbent, Reed tries to define his opponent so he can attack and avoid the judgment that he has failed this district. Tracy will continue to address what voters need and want most: affordable health care, good education, infrastructure, support for our farmers and jobs in the district.  And her values remain consistent with support for both law enforcement and for the Justice in Policing Act.

Mitrano quotes

On social media posts

“There were some social networking posts that one of the [Mandate Media] employees made that are inappropriate. There was the resurrection of the very unfortunate incident of a field organizer  who had some very inappropriate social networking posts, and what I said to my manager was, 'She has 30 seconds to resign or she's fired.'”

"I have taken action. I have a record of actually doing something in alignment with my values.”

“If we're going to go back [to 2018], I have not heard Tom Reed denounce his campaign manager for arresting a minister for trying to clean up lawn signs. Or the individuals in Schuyler and Yates County who've been arrested for stealing Democratic lawn signs right now. Why doesn't Tom Reed deal with his own people?"

On law enforcement

“It's a lie. I support law enforcement. I support funding law enforcement. My entire family is dedicated to the military and law enforcement work. What Tom Reed is trying to do is turn it into a zero-sum game where either you support the police, in which case you are against fairness, justice and peace, or you support fairness, justice and peace, which puts you against law enforcement. That’s a false choice, and it is not going to help this country heal.”
