Cuba Police Department news

The Cuba Police Department is proud to serve our residents with professionalism, accountability, and transparency. We continue to train and to improve our agency in all aspects of policing. We are committed to compliance with the Governor’s Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative. A large part of this collaborative is transparency. The following empirical data is taken from our records of arrests from the past 15 years (violations, misdemeanors and felonies). It should be noted that this is our true and accurate raw numbers. These numbers represent the amount of arrests made in the past 15 years but the population percentages for all ethnicities change from year to year. Many of these arrests are also of individuals who do not live in our jurisdiction. The break down is as follows:

Female Arrests:

American Indian - 8

Asian - 3

African American - 30

Caucasian - 1713

Male Arrests:

American Indian - 17

Asian - 14

African American - 112

Caucasian - 3817

Total Combined Arrests:

American Indian - 25

Asian - 17

African American - 142

Caucasian - 5530

The Cuba Police Department has also had 20 use of force incidents in the past 5 years. Of those 20, all of the incidents were with Caucasian individuals. 16 being white males and 4 being whites females. All 20 where deemed legal use of force incidents.

As we see across the country, many areas are alleging the targeting of minority groups by law enforcement. Here in Cuba, those types of scenarios simply are not supported by the true and accurate arrest data. The supervisors, officers, investigators and school resource officers of the Cuba Police Department serve all citizens of our jurisdiction and those passing through or visiting professionally, regardless of race, gender, or ethnicity. We want to see our community thrive while maintaining a peaceful, welcoming atmosphere for all who live, work or visit Cuba. I am proud to say I think we are accomplishing that mission.
