Re-opening Gyms/Health Club Facilities and More
The Allegany County Department of Health (ACDOH) would like the community, gym/health club facility
owner/operators and members to know we have received the reopening gyms and fitness centers guidelines;
interim guidance for gyms and fitness centers during COVID-19 public health emergency; and the NY forward
safety plan template. These documents are available at https://forward.ny.gov/phase-four-industries.
In the guidance, the New York State Department of Health has listed more than gyms, fitness centers and health
club facilities. These guidelines apply to fitness activities and facilities, including, but not limited to, standalone,
hotel, residential, and office gyms and fitness centers; gyms and fitness centers in higher education institutions;
yoga/Pilates/barre studios; boxing/kickboxing gyms; fitness boot camps; CrossFit or other plyometric boxes and
other group fitness classes (e.g. spin, rowing, dancing). See the guidance documents at
https://forward.ny.gov/phase-four-industries. The interim guidance is subject to change as the state will be
closely working with local health departments during the initial reopening as a pilot phase to monitor compliance
of owners/operators.
We understand the eagerness of the businesses and communities in resuming these operations to provide access
and expand opportunities for physical activity to maintain good health. As soon as we receive additional
information or any additional changes to reopening, we will be reaching out to the facilities in Allegany County.
The adherence to social distancing and face covering requirements, and cleaning and disinfection protocols will
continue to be vital to keeping disease transmission low to protect our residents.
Owner/operators of the above facilities with questions should consult the guidance materials. If you are an
owner/operator, have additional questions, or have not been contacted by the Allegany County Department of
Health, please call the ACDOH at 585-268-9250 and press 1 for environmental health.
