Obituary: Shirley M. Tomm, 89, Alfred Station

ALFRED STATION – Shirley M. Tomm, 89, passed away on Sunday (Aug. 16, 2020) at the home of her daughter in Apalachin, surrounded by family.
Mrs. Tomm was born on May 3, 1931 in Buffalo to Norman and Viola (Wahl) Cramp. She was a 1949 graduate of Barker Central School. On June 17, 1950 in Tonawanda she married Robert W. Tomm, Sr., who predeceased her on June 26, 2010.
Shirley was a dedicated stay at home farmer’s wife and mother to her five children. In later years she worked for The Gallery.
Shirley is survived by two sons, Robert (Gloria) Tomm, Jr. and Steven (Debra) Tomm, both of Alfred Station; three daughters, Laura (James) Davis and Cindy (Wayne) Davis, both of Apalachin and Denise (Tom) Silvanic of Owego; one brother, “Sonny” Cramp; one sister, Marilyn Converso; 15 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband of 60 years, she was predeceased by a brother, Robert Cramp.
Shirley had a strong love for family and cherished the many traditions and memories they shared, especially Christmases spent at the APB Club. She was committed to maintaining her style throughout the years, getting her hair done weekly by Jeanne and also enjoyed having her nails done by her granddaughter. For her personal time, she enjoyed spending time outdoors, being by the water and she was an avid reader.
There are not enough words to truly explain how incredible this woman was: The strength and fight she had in her.  The love and support that was endless.  The most kind and caring, with the perfect mixture of sass and funniness.  An independent soul.
Visitation for Shirley will be held on Saturday (Aug. 22) from 1-2 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. Her memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. immediately following the visitation with Rev. Christian Mattison of the Andover Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Valley Brook Cemetery. Online condolences may be offered at www.baker-swan.com.
Memorial contributions in Shirley’s name may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
