Allegany County will likely face unprecedented fiscal challenges

The Allegany County Legislature will meet at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 27. Revenue losses are expected, coupled with increased, unplanned expenses from the COVID-19 pandemic. Lawmakers will ask county officials to 'close the wallet' for a few months and develop contingency plans. The below resolution will be voted on by the Board.

RESOLUTION DIRECTING THE ALLEGANY COUNTY BUDGET OFFICER AND DEPUTY COUNTY BUDGET OFFICER TO WORK WITH DEPARTMENT HEADS TO BUILD A CONTINGENCY BUDGET; DIRECTING DEPARTMENT HEADS TO DELAY ANY UNNECESSARY PURCHASES FOR THREE MONTHS

            WHEREAS, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Allegany County will likely face unprecedented fiscal challenges unplanned for in its current 2020 Budget adopted by this Board of Legislators in November of 2019, and           

            WHEREAS, in order to mitigate any potential revenue losses and increases in expense associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, immediate planning is required, now, therefore, be it 

            RESOLVED: 

            1.         That the Allegany County Board of Legislators direct the County Budget Officer and Deputy Budget Officer to work with Department Heads to build a contingency budget plan based on anticipated revenue losses.

            2.         That the Allegany County Board of Legislators direct Department Heads to delay any unnecessary purchases for three months.
