Andover grocery store to close
Maier's Market, which has served the Andover community and beyond, is set to close November 1st. Store owner Dawn Niedermaier told The Spectator that the recent opening of a new Dollar General "was quickly felt." Andover Mayor David Truax said "it's sad to see them close their doors." He said he just learned of the news Thursday night. He said Maier's had "an outstanding deli and butcher shop...it's gonna be sad." Truax said he was proud of the local ownership, noting that most Andover businesses are owned by local people. Truax said, "its a surprise."
Allegany County legislator Karl Graves, who represents Andover, responded to the news with "Oh No!" He said it's "not a good thing." Graves, however, said that business owners have to make decisions. He said he feels "for senior citizens" who relied on the market.
