Crandall falls short in senate bid
By a nearly 2-1 margin, Chautauqua County Executive George Borrello defeated longtime Allegany County legislator Curtis Crandall of Belfast in the Republican primary election for a vacant seat in New York's Senate. Borrello outpaced Crandall 7,453-4,247. Crandall did sweep Allegany County, 1,858-483. The seat became vacant when Republican Sen. Catharine Young left to take a job at Cornell University's horticultural research institute. She'd held the seat for 14 years. Borrello will now face 22-year-old Austin Morgan, a Democrat, in the November General Election.
