Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on April 8th, 2019, deputies of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested Ashley R. Houston, age 28, of Maple City Drive, Hornell, New York. It is alleged that in February, 2016, Ms. Houston failed to notify the Department of Social Services of an update in her case that she was required to make. It is also alleged that in March, 2016, and in February, 2018, Ms. Houston offered written instruments to the Steuben County Department of Social Services knowing they contained false information. As a result Ms. Houston allegedly received benefits that she was not eligible to receive. Ms. Houston was charged with two counts of Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the first degree, one count of Grand Larceny in the fourth degree, all class E felonies, and one count of Petit Larceny, a class A misdemeanor. She was released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Village of Bath Court at a later date.

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Steuben County Department of Social Services, and the District Attorney’s Office in this investigation.
