Rep. Tom Reed: A Crisis in Our Schools

One in five children ages 13-18 have or will have a serious mental illness. Clearly, this is an issue that has a large impact on our children – and we must do something.
We recently sat down with Dundee Central School Superintendent Kelly Houck to hear about the crisis facing Yates County due to lack of access to mental health care for students in our schools.
After we received Superintendent Houck’s feedback, we immediately jumped into action and cosponsored the Mental Health Services for Students Act.
This bill provides up to $200 million for competitive grants for public schools across the country to partner with local mental health professionals to establish on-site services.
The quality of life for students and their families will improve with access to these mental health services.
Is there something happening in your community that we can assist with? Give any of our offices a call – we are here for you!
Until next time,
Tom
