ACCORD’s Community Action Angels have begun collecting toys and gifts for children ages birth to 18. Last December, the program provided gifts and gifts cards to 232 young children and teens throughout Allegany County. Holidays can be especially taxing on family budgets, so the Community Action Angels work very hard to ensure every child has a magical Christmas! Community Action Angels serve children in districts where no other programs exist or where that program may not serve children over a certain age. For information about making a donation or if your community group is interested in conducting a fundraiser for the Community Action Angels Holiday Gift Program, please contact Belinda at (585) 268-7605 extension 1340.
Donations to the emergency food pantry for holiday meals are also being accepted at the Belmont ACCESS Center, 84 Schuyler Street, Belmont. With help from Foodlink, Allegany County United Way and community donations, ACCORD distributed 430 Holiday Meals plus more than 200 emergency food boxes during the 2017 holiday season. An estimated 1 in 6 people go hungry every day (11 Facts About Hunger in the US, www.dosomething.org.) Thank you for helping us work to reduce that statistic in Allegany County.
