Obituary: Jack Michael “Mike” Harvey, 62, Almond

ALMOND - Jack Michael “Mike” Harvey, age 62, died on October 17, 2018 at Jones Memorial Hospital under the “Comfort Care” of it’s loving staff and nurses. He was born in Hornell, NY on July 24, 1956, to Jack Crusen Harvey and Patricia Spaine Harvey Curran.
Mike attended Alfred Almond Central School and graduated in 1974. He was well known for his athletic ability in his younger years, especially as a wrestler and soccer player. After High School, Mike became employed at Alfred State College where he worked until retiring in 2011.
Mike is survived by his daughter Sienna (Kyle) Burnett, and their three children, Wyatt, Reagan, and Quinn. Son Luke (Shani) Harvery and their daughter Lucia, with another grandchild on the way, along with his children’s mother Colleen McKnight Harvey. His wife Debra Castle-Harvey and her son Rafael Wilson-Castle. His mother Patricia Curran. His brothers, Kenneth Charles “K.C.” and Patrick “Hoss” and his wife Tammy. His sister Sally Jo Norton, along with several nieces and nephews.
Mike was predeceased by his father Jack, in 1988 and his step father, Martin T. Curran in 2017.
Mike will be remembered by many as a talented carpenter and builder. He also spent many of his years hunting and trapping. He could often be found at night with his dogs hunting raccoons. He loved nature and was happiest when outside enjoying it. He was also known to rehabilitate a wild animal or two!
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home in Hornell, New York. At Mike’s request, there will be no prior calling hours. A private service for the family and a few close friends will be held at the convenience of the family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 3, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at Mulheisen’s Restaurant in Almond, New York.
Mike’s family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name be made to the Almond Ambulance Fund, Almond NY 14804.
