GOVERNOR CUOMO ANNOUNCES RATIFICATION OF SIX-YEAR LABOR CONTRACT WITH UNITED UNIVERSITY PROFESSIONS

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the ratification of a six-year labor agreement between the state and United University Professions, the nation's largest higher education union, representing more than 35,000 SUNY employees. The agreement won the approval of nearly 98 percent of UUP members who cast ballots.

"This contract agreement fairly and appropriately compensates the hardworking men and women who are the backbone of our university system, while also protecting the taxpayers' bottom line," Governor Cuomo said. "I applaud United University Professions for ratifying their contract agreement and commend President Kowal and the union leadership for their hard work on this achievement."

The contract agreement includes 2 percent wage increases each year through 2021-2022, provides access to new Paid Family Leave benefits, and establishes an adjunct faculty minimum compensation. This is the first labor union agreement with the state that includes Paid Family Leave benefits since the policy took effect on January 1, 2018.
