Houghton College Announces New Professor of Music Industry

HOUGHTON, NY  – Houghton College is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Jethro Silver as director and professor of music industry and technical arts.
Silver assumes leadership of Houghton’s music industry program, overseeing a major that has grown to one of the Greatbatch School of Music’s most popular tracks. He will also manage the sound and technical arts department, which provides students with hands-on experience and training on sound, mixing, and other elements essential to modern music industry roles. Additionally, Silver will teach courses in the areas of music publishing and marketing and Pro Tools.
Prior to Houghton, Silver served in significant roles at the Berklee College of Music in Boston as both a professor as well as assistant chair of the piano department. His knowledge as a sound engineer, designer, programmer, keyboardist, and more has led him to work with artists such as Italian pop star Giorgia, Japanese pop star Namie Amuro, Gladys Knight, Stevie Wonder, Patti LaBelle, Patti Austin, 98 Degrees, Brandy, Faith Hill, Sheila E., The Temptations, Monica, Chaka Khan, Faith Evans, Luther Vandross, BeBe Winans, and Andrae Crouch. Most notably, Silver worked extensively with the late Whitney Houston and her production company for nearly 13 years, including domestic performances as well as tours to London, Morocco, the 2006 Winter Olympics in Italy, Persian Gulf, Russia, and more.
He has also served in ministry and worship leader roles across the United States, including in Missouri, California, New York, Rhode Island, and was appointed as the official Bible study leader during his time with Whitney Houston Productions. He continues to compose, design, engineer, and produce independently for several television shows.
Silver holds a bachelor’s degree from the Berklee College of Music, a master’s degree from Andover Newton Theological School, a graduate diploma from General Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Andover Newton.
He joins the Houghton community with his wife, Nimma, and their daughter, Anaya.
