Canisteo man killed in crash
On May 16th, 2018 at about 10:00 a.m., New York State Police
at Bath responded to a single-vehicle motor vehicle accident on County Road 119
in the Town of Cameron, which claimed the life of a Canisteo man. Investigation revealed that a south-bound
vehicle operated by Nance A. Herbert, age 79, of 27 North Hornell St.,
Canisteo, N.Y. failed to negotiate a curve, resulting in the vehicle exiting
the roadway and rolling over several times, before coming to rest in a stream
bed. An occupant of the vehicle, Michael
D. Russell, age 52, also of #27 North Hornell St., Canisteo, N.Y., was
pronounced dead at the scene by Steuben County Coroner Steve Copp. Ambulance Corps and Fire Depts. from Cameron
and Canisteo responded to the scene and extricated the victims and provided
first aid. Herbert was airlifted from
the scene by LifeNet helicopter to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa. for
treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigation into the accident is continuing.
