Amity Judge still examining testimony in Basile trial - no verdict yet
Ten days after former Environmental Conservation Officer Ken Basile of Wellsville stood trial on criminal charges, a local judge has yet to render a verdict. Basile faces accusations that he tipped off potential drug dealers about planned law enforcement action. Basile stood trial May 25th during a nearly four hour proceeding. During the bench trial (resolved by a judge and not a jury), the prosecution offered a handful of witnesses, with the defense only offering Basile himself to testify on his behalf. While the verdict remains uncertain, it is clear that Amity Town Justice Stephen Presutti is taking time to fully examine the evidence, to include witness testimony and documents submitted. Unlike TV, actual justice is not resolved inside the 42 minute network requirement. Judge Presutti is on a deadline which extends beyond minutes. If convicted, Basile could face jail time. The clock, however, is ticking.
