“Donate Life Day” Highlights Importance of Organ Donation

Today is Donate Life Day, which highlights the importance of organ donation and transplants.  The New York State Department of Health reports that 22 people a day die from causes that could have been treated with a donated organ, and state Assemblyman Phil Palmesano – an advocate and former organ donor himself – says that nearly 10,000 New Yorkers are currently waiting for an organ transplant.  Of those, 1,700 have been waiting for more than five years, according to Palmesano.  If you’d like to learn more about organ donations and transplants, visit https://www.donatelife.net.
