Allegany County fire causes up to $100,000 in damage to building
A fire Thursday morning wrecked a garage and caused some damage to a home at 2703 Pine Grove Road in Wirt. Allegany County Fire Coordinator Jeff Luckey said this afternoon that the cause was "accidental" in nature and was called in by the property owner. Flames destroyed an equipment-filled garage and also damaged a nearby home. He pegged damaged at between $75,000 to $100,000. Luckey said the home sustained some siding and roof damage. The garage, he said, acted as an auto shop as well. Luckey conformed that a Bolivar-Richburg fire communications facility was located in the vicinity of the blaze, it sustained no damage. The Fire Coordinator said the blaze was brought under control within an hour, although firefighters, he said, remained at the scene for 3-4 hours. Luckey said the volunteers did "a great job" in limiting damage to nearby exposures.
