Allegany County Health Department Advises Residents Not to Use Hand Sanitizer Products Recently Recalled

Information recently released by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warns of possible exposure to methanol (wood alcohol) from hand sanitizer manufactured by Eskbiochem SA de CV in Mexico. Methanol is a substance that can be toxic when absorbed through the skin or ingested. The FDA has identified the following products manufactured by Eskbiochem: 
- All-Clean Hand Sanitizer (NDC: 74589-002-01) 
 - Esk Biochem Hand Sanitizer (NDC: 74589-007-01) 
- CleanCare NoGerm Advanced Hand Sanitizer 75% Alcohol (NDC: 74589-008-04) 
- Lavar 70 Gel Hand Sanitizer (NDC: 74589-006-01) 
- The Good Gel Antibacterial Gel Hand Sanitizer (NDC: 74589-010-10)  -CleanCare NoGerm Advanced Hand Sanitizer 80% Alcohol (NDC: 74589-005-03) 
- CleanCare NoGerm Advanced Hand Sanitizer 75% Alcohol (NDC: 74589-009-01) 
- CleanCare NoGerm Advanced Hand Sanitizer 80% Alcohol (NDC: 74589-003-01) 
- Saniderm Advanced Hand Sanitizer (NDC: 74589-001-01)

It is noted that methanol is not an acceptable ingredient for hand sanitizers and should not be used due to its toxic effects. If you or someone you know has used one of the above products containing methanol, please contact your healthcare provider and seek immediate medical treatment which may assist in the reversal of toxic effects of methanol poisoning. You may also contact the New York Regional Poison Control Center at 1-800- 222-1222 for assistance.
To date, these products have not been removed from the market, therefore, it is recommended that residents do not purchase the above items, stop using these products if you have them, and discard them immediately. The FDA has not reported any adverse events associated with the above hand sanitizer products to date.
