Allegany County Real Property photo
Firefighters from three counties and two states battled a structure fire Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Kossuth Road and State Route 417 in Bolivar. The blaze was dispatched at 12:45 p.m. sending crews to 1498 Kossuth Road. Numerous first responders reported a garage was "fully engulfed" and a nearby home was in jeopardy. According to online Broadcastify reports, an assistant Bolivar fire chief reported propane tanks were in the garage and there were possible explosions. Responding to the scene to assist Bolivar were volunteers and equipment from Richburg, Clarksville, Shinglehouse, Allentown, Alma, Portville and Hinsdale. State Route 417 was shut down to traffic as firefighters battled the flames. The Bolivar Fire Chief declared the blaze under control at 1:09 p.m. and said there didn't appear to be any fire extension to the neighboring home. The Allegany County Fire Coordinator responded to the scene as did several fire investigators. By 2:20 p.m., some fire units were clearing the scene and Route 417 was reopened to traffic. The cause remains under review.
