Steuben deputies make arrest in food stamp case

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on February 19, 2020, deputies of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested Derrick M. Ritchie, age 27, of W. Washington Street, Bath New York. It is alleged that in November 2018, Mr. Ritchie used another person’s benefit card issued by the Steuben County Department of Social Services while that person was incarcerated in the Steuben County Jail. As a result, Mr. Ritchie obtained benefits which he was not entitled nor authorized to receive in the amount of $241.63. Mr. Ritchie is charged with six counts of Misuse of Food Stamps, a class A misdemeanor in violation of New York State Social Service Law, and one count of Petit Larceny, a class A misdemeanor in violation of New York State penal Law. Mr. Ritchie was issued an appearance ticket to appear in the Village of Bath Court at a later date. Upon completion of the arrest it was discovered Mr. Ritchie had an active arrest warrant returnable to Yates County for aggravated unlicensed operation third. Mr. Ritchie was turned over to Yates County Deputies to answer for the above warrant.

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Steuben County Department of Social Services Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit, and the District Attorney’s Office.
